Have you ever had a warm feeling inside? It’s a good feeling where you feel comforted and at peace. I went to the Big Island, and had the opportunity to visit and work in Waipio Valley. I have never been to a place where I could feel my culture so strong, as I felt at Waipio. To describe this feeling to very hard. It’s a feeling deep deep inside your naʻau where you feel so attached and connected to your bloodline roots and culture. You are at one, and standing with your ancestors. You feel their mana within. This taught me to much about who I am. It reflects back to the person I am today. Am I the Hawaiian I want to be? Am I putting the best effort into everything that I do throughout my day, like how our people have done? Connecting to our culture for me has such a huge impact. I felt it this trip. The feeling is so unexplainable. It is a feeling that you have to witness and create on your own visit. At the end of the working day I felt so grateful for the Hawaiian people in the olden day. Now we have so many different tools and machinery to fix and move things. Back then, it took them to physically move and fix the necessities that they needed. I will forever remember this experience, I am so grateful that I had the chance to work and serve our Hawaiian culture.
